Care & Custody Engineer

Babcock New Zealand are looking for a Marine Electrician to join our Devonport based Care & Custody Team.

 

About the role

 

This is the perfect role for seagoing personnel looking to move their career ashore. Daily duties are performed onboard Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) ships that are in lay-up at Devonport Naval Base. This position would suit an ex-Navy Electrical Technician or commercial ETO/Electrical Engineer. 

 

The primary responsibilities of this position are to deliver operational level planned maintenance and manage safe systems of work when contractors/trades are working onboard. The RNZN Vessels that are in lay-up are very much kept alive and maintained at a required readiness state; turning routines and basin trials form a part of this.

 

The role will be part of the ever growing RNZN Care & Custody (C&C) Team, you will work alongside other maritime professionals in a tight-knit team.

 

Key responsibilities will include

 

  • Complete all operational level planned maintenance on the Ships subject to the C&C contract agreement and planned maintenance system.
  • Providing a safe work environment for contractors on board. Responsible for managing safe systems at work within Babcock NZ guidelines.
  • Monitor the safety of personnel and safety of the asset both during working hours,
  • Be a part of the out of hours duty roster team (approximately one week duty in eight), responding to out of hour alarms.
  • Support the C&C Senior Electrical Engineer when providing Repair &Maintenance of all electrical devices on board RNZN Ships.
  • Take ownership of problems that arise and manage until resolved (may include minor project management work).
  • Actively promote a health and safety culture within the organisation to reduce incident and injury, and continuously drive safety improvement, awareness and belief in a healthy and safe work environment.

 

About you

 

Your background will have included seagoing experience and you will have relevant high and low voltage maintenance experience along with appropriate seafaring tickets or electrical trade qualification. You have strong people and communications skills and enjoy a positive team working environment.

 

  • ETO ticket or EWRB Electrician (desirable)
  • Relevant Engineering Qualification (Diploma or Trade Qualification).
  • Marine shipboard maintenance experience.
