Babcock is looking for a Calibration Technician Mechanical – Lead to join the Calibration team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
As the Calibration Technician Mechanical – Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role guiding a skilled team responsible for precision testing, calibration and repair of mechanical, pressure, torque and breathing equipment. You’ll oversee daily workflow, coach a small group of technical specialists, and ensure all work meets ISO 17025 and quality assurance standards.
A major focus will be establishing and operating our new pressure calibration function. Built from the ground up, this capability will rely on your technical depth to design workflows, develop procedures, commission equipment and ensure the function runs efficiently and safely.
Your leadership will influence how the mechanical team operates, while your expertise supports critical operational environments—allowing you to make a tangible impact each day. About you
You bring proven expertise in pressure calibration a strong understanding of metrology, mechanical principles, and ISO 17025 compliance. You thrive in a hands‑on environment where precision matters, and you lead by example—supportive, organised, and committed to developing others. You communicate clearly, handle documentation with accuracy, and actively look for better, safer ways to work. You’re comfortable making decisions, improving processes, and representing your team with professionalism and confidence.

• Pressure calibration and testing capability
• Strong understanding of metrology
• Experience leading technical teams
• Mechanical engineering knowledge
• Ability to interpret and apply ISO 17025
• Excellent written and verbal communication

• Strong computer and documentation skills
Key Required Qualifications
• Mechanical diploma or higher (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum 5+ years as Mechanical Technician (or equivalent)
• Key Technical Status for ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
• Eligibility for Defence Security Clearance and ability to access FOUO/ITAR material
