Assistant Production Manager - Electrical
Auckland, NZ, 0624
Babcock is looking for a First Line Manager - Electrical to join the Program Delivery team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
Lead the frontline trades that keep RNZN platforms mission‑ready. As First Line Manager, you’ll work closely with the Production manager to coordinate Marine Electricians, Weapons Technicians and Radio/Radar Technicians to deliver safe, on‑time, on‑budget maintenance and upgrades under the MFSS contract. Set targets, allocate resources, and hold progress against the Integrated Master Schedule while upholding technical reports, HSE, and Trade Control. Your leadership turns plans and work instructions into sea‑worthy outcomes that matter to Defence—real ships, real schedules, real impact.
Join a collaborative, safety‑first culture that backs decisive frontline leaders. Expect variety across power distribution, control systems, navigation, comms, and sensors—and the satisfaction of handing back vessels fit for task. We’ll support your CPD, exposure to PLM/MRP toolsets, and clear pathways into broader production or programme leadership. If you enjoy solving practical problems, driving standards, and seeing the fleet sail because your team delivered, this role will feel purposeful from day one.
About you
You're a hands-on leader from a marine, electrical, or electronics background who thrives on safe, disciplined execution. You balance people, schedule, cost, and quality, turning work instructions into outcomes with verified OQE. You read the IMS, see risks early, and re-sequence calmly. You coach trades, tackle blockers, and model HSE—JSEAs, POWSAs, ALARP—every day. Comfortable with PLM/MRP and digital reporting, you communicate clearly, own decisions, and take pride in returning RNZN assets to sea on time and to budget.
Key Required Skills
• Frontline leadership of multi‑trade teams (electricians, radio/radar, electronics).
• Production planning, sequencing, and resource allocation.
• HSE compliance and risk assessment (JSEA/POWSA, ALARP).
• Quality assurance and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) management.
• Schedule control and IMS progress tracking/reporting.
• Proficiency with PLM/MRP and digital work instructions.
• Stakeholder communication, escalation, and clear status reporting.
• Continuous improvement and standard work development.
Key Required Qualifications
• Technical vocational qualification/certificate in a related trade discipline.
• Approximately 5 years’ relevant technical/maintenance experience.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain NZSIS Confidential Vetting (CV).
• Construction Induction Card (White Card) and eligibility for FOUO/ITAR access.
• Proven people leadership skills
