Network & System Support Engineer
Location: Ashchurch

About the role
Reporting through the Engineering and Solutions team, you will be responsible for the delivery of technical support on a range of large customer-hosted systems in operational environments. This work will include but not be limited to:
• Analysis of reported incidents and identification of suitable solutions to technical problems
• Implementation of technical fixes to problems, including re-configuring, restarting, replacement, upgrade or modification of any system element.
• Working alongside the customer to identify system weaknesses and propose solutions to strengthen availability, security and improve performance.
• Design, procurement, management and supervision of the implementation of ICT systems, as required.
• To work with the customer to identify further service/business opportunities from which both Babcock and the customer will benefit.
Ensure Company health, safety and environmental procedures are implemented and complied with at all times.

What do I need to do the role?
In order carry out the role effectively you should have demonstrable experience, and/or evidence of relevant training undertaken in the following technical areas:
• TCP/IP architecture including the role that each layer provides in a network architecture.
• Windows and Linux Operating Systems in an administrator role and at the command line.
• Networking knowledge – design, configuration, implementation and maintenance
• Cisco network and server configuration technologies (both in and out of band) including Cisco IOS
• Expertise in implementing VPNs, Firewalls and security of Internet facing services.
• A working understanding of Cyber and Information Security principles including knowledge of the types of threats and vulnerabilities to IT hardware and software.
• ITIL service manager
• ITIL asset manager

You will also need:
• A positive “can-do” attitude and a willingness to think outside of the box to solve complex technical problems
• Excellent attention to detail
• A confident ability to work in and/or lead small teams in the resolving of larger incidents.
• A drive to deliver results on time, taking ownership of tasks and working diligently towards a resolution, focussed on “delighting the customer”.
• A relevant IT or Engineering qualification, such as a degree, foundation degree or HND.
• A commitment to professional development, including Incorporated or Chartered status with a Professional Body such as the British Computing Society or The IET. Alternatively Membership and a plan to achieve Professional status.

• The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
