Electrical Installations Estimator
About the role

Working as part of our Defence Systems Technology (DST) business we’re looking for an Estimator to join us.

The Estimator is a Customer facing role reporting to the Proposals and Estimating Manager. The role leads the installation estimating function providing Customers with accurate and timely installation estimates, supported by other elements of the business, including procurement and installation technicians.  This role may require regular travel both in the UK and overseas.


You will provide a specialist installation estimating capability. Your main tasks will include:

• To identify, create and apply appropriate installation estimating training and mentoring packages to Installation Team Leads & PSOs to ensure consistency of installation estimates.
• To create and document the estimating processes required to facilitate the creation of an integrated installation estimating function.
• To conduct site surveys in response to Customer Task Service Forms (TSFs) to clarify TSF scope and to capture Customer requirements and acceptance criteria.
• To support the business in creating installation schedules, risk analysis and estimates based upon TSFs and Site Surveys taking into consideration all deliverables and required timescales.

What do I need to do the role?
Technical experience and qualifications:
You must hold a relevant ONC/HNC/HND qualification and it would be desirable to be an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registered with the Engineering Council in an appropriate engineering discipline. You must be diplomatic, assertive and a clear communicator in all forms and act in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

We would also like you to have the following:
• A knowledge of and compliance with the Health and Safety policy and regulations consistent with their responsibilities as Installation Estimator.
• Possess or be willing to gain a Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification.
• Possess (or be willing to gain) an adequate knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) 2015 regulations and to understand the cost and time implications of Babcock being appointed in the role of Principle Designer.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with resource managers, installation team members, clients and superiors at all levels and in all areas of management.
• Understanding of Defence and Security industry (desirable).
• Possess a full, UK Driving Licence.

You will also require the following skills and qualifications:
Specific Electrical Qualifications and Skills:
• Time served electrical apprenticeship.
• City & Guilds parts 1 and 2 in Electrical Installations.
• City & Guilds 2391/2394/2395 certificate of inspection and testing of electrical installations.
• City & Guilds 2392 level 3 certificate of inspection and testing of electrical installations.
• Working knowledge of electrical installations (Basic record of proven ability in related work).
• City & Guilds 2377-22 Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
• Working knowledge of the Code of Practice for the In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (4th Edition).
• IET Latest Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations Incorporating any Amendments.

Specific Data Qualifications and Skills:
• City and Guilds 3466 (structured cabling installation and testing).
• Fibre optic installation, splicing and testing (basic record of proven ability).
• Cat 5 / 5e installations, termination and testing (basic record of proven ability).

• CIPS Foundation (Level 4) or Corporate Award Business Practitioner or equivalent business related qualification is preferred.
• Procurement experience in a similar role desirable.

What else do I need to know?

The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this position.
