Supportability Engineering Discipline Lead 

About the Role

As the Supportability Engineering Discipline Lead at Babcock, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our engineering capability across Australasia. Embedded within our Engineering, Technology and Program Management (ETaP) function, this leadership position is responsible for developing and managing the Supportability Engineering discipline to meet the evolving needs of our products and services. You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of current programs and emerging opportunities, collaborating with stakeholders and capability managers to ensure our people, processes and tools are aligned with delivery requirements. You’ll lead the design and implementation of integrated Supportability capability solutions, applying your expertise across Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Testability Engineering, to mature approaches across the region. Your work will also include technical investigations, risk assessments, and lifecycle analysis, contributing to the development of high-quality artefacts and documentation. As a subject matter expert, you’ll guide teams through complex engineering challenges, champion process improvement, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Your influence will extend beyond enabling project delivery, shaping our engineering management systems, supporting business development, and driving continuous improvement across the discipline.

 

About You

You are a seasoned engineering professional with deep expertise in Supportability Engineering and a passion for capability development. You thrive in complex environments, bringing clarity and leadership to technical challenges. Your experience spans the full engineering lifecycle, and you’re confident making high-consequence decisions that impact product safety, performance and sustainability. You’re a strategic thinker who understands how to integrate technical solutions into broader business objectives, and you’re committed to mentoring others and building a resilient, future-ready workforce.

 

You bring a strong foundation in Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Testability modelling and analysis, with hands-on experience in tools and methodologies such as FMECA, RCM, FRACAS, and DCACAS. You’re familiar with Integrated Product Support (IPS) activities and have a keen eye for lifecycle cost analysis and verification processes. Your communication skills allow you to lead technical discussions with stakeholders at all levels, and your collaborative approach fosters strong relationships across teams. Above all, you’re driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact—advancing engineering excellence and delivering solutions that support Babcock’s mission across Australasia.

To be successful in this position you will bring;

  • Hold an accredited (under the Washington Accord) bachelor’s degree in engineering or hold the recognised engineering qualifications to be eligible to obtain Professional Engineer category Membership through a recognised body.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer Accreditation
  • Significant experience within the Supportability Engineering discipline
  • Experience in managing an engineering function(s) and/or technical delivery.
  • Conceptual and systemic thinking to solve current and future issues and validate opportunities.
  • Visible leadership to shape a culture of ongoing improvement.
  • An Australian Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Commonwealth Defence Security Clearance as defined by AGSVA guidelines
