Subcontracts Specialist

About the Role

Babcock have recently been awarded a major multi-year program to upgrade the Australian Defence Force’s High Frequency Communications System. The new system will provide Australia and allied armed forces with the ability to securely communicate using voice and other data from almost any location across the globe!

This is a newly created role targeted at management of our approved Subcontractors and key Subcontractors whilst those Subcontractors are on-contract, delivering against their scope/schedule and pricing obligations. As an integral member of our JP9101 High Frequency Defence team, you will drive value for money, contract performance and provide management expertise across key points in our program supply chain to support Babcock achieve capability requirements for its customer.

Key responsibilities will also include:

  • Manage the contract performance phase of all Approved Subcontractors and key Subcontractors, ensuring they deliver against their agreed scope/schedule/ price and other contractual obligations.
  • Lead reporting activities with support from Program functional leads.
  • Act as the key interface between internal and external stakeholders ensuring Subcontractor deliverables are received, reviewed, accepted and paid.
  • Maintain subcontractor relationships including managing contract dispute matters.
  • Act as key internal interface between the Subcontracts team and Project Management Office in achievement of contractual and programmatic outcomes .
  • Lead Subcontract negotiation of variations and contribute to annual CPI adjustments in accordance with contract terms.
  • Provide guidance and leadership in all subcontract matters throughout the Program lifecycle with a particular focus on the performance phase .

This role would suit a Business or Project Management qualified candidate with a sound knowledge of contracting principles aspiring to further their skills as part of a Commercial or Project Management team environment.

About You

The successful applicant will thrive working within a complex forward thinking environment and ideally possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications Business, Commerce, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in subcontract management and/or project management.
  • Experience in the mobilisation of new projects is desirable but not required.
  • Experience within a complex Acquisition ASDEFCON or Engineering environment is desirable.
  • Exemplary communication skills with a proven track record of successful management of Subcontractors and maximising cost savings.
  • Able to manage your own workload, control conflicting priorities, work with internal cross functional stakeholders and external customers, succeed in high pressure environments and deliver outcomes to strict deadlines.
  • Sound understanding of contracting principles.
  • Australian Citizenship required.
  • Baseline Security Clearance required.
