About the Role
Join Babcock's dynamic Finance team as a Management Accountant and play a pivotal role in the Financial Success of our Defence Programs, including our Defence High Frequency Communications System Contract (DHFCS). Babcock has taken the lead in managing and advancing the Defence High Frequency (HF) Communications capability across multiple sites in Australia!
As a Management Accountant, you will be instrumental in providing financial support to Babcock’s Defence programs, ensuring accurate contract reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis. You will oversee invoicing and cash flow management while maintaining compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. A key aspect of this role involves monitoring project costs, variances, and cash flow, as well as understanding contractual obligations to ensure adherence to terms and conditions.
You will support project teams by offering financial analysis, governance, and contractual reporting, ensuring month-end activities are conducted efficiently to reflect accurate project results. Additionally, you will contribute to quarterly EAC reviews, validating outputs independently and providing financial insights for Contract Status Reviews (CSR). You will take ownership of tasks, showing strong self‑motivation and accountability to ensure financial reporting deadlines are achieved.
Building strong relationships with key stakeholders is a priority, as is maintaining the IFS project structure to facilitate effective reporting.

To be successful, you will bring:
- Accounting/Commerce degree.
- Professional accounting body membership qualified.
- Sound knowledge of accounting standards.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including creating PivotTables, interactive dashboards, financial models and using advanced lookup formulas.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to produce and analyse financial information.
- Previous experience working in a similar, high-risk industry.
- Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
