About the Role
Due to continued growth across our region, Babcock is seeking an exceptional Head of Media, Marketing and Communications to join our team. Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer, this role will be instrumental in shaping how we present our brand, engage our audiences and strengthen our reputation as a trusted sovereign Defence partner.
This senior leadership role oversees the full marketing, communications, media and events portfolio for our Australasian business, ensuring alignment with both local priorities and our global brand and corporate affairs strategy. You will lead the development of an integrated approach to brand positioning, strategic communications and market engagement, providing expert counsel to the Executive Team on reputation, media, stakeholder engagement and public affairs. A key focus will be ensuring our messaging reflects the needs of Defence and Commercial clients while remaining consistent with global standards, governance frameworks and approval processes.
You will guide national marketing strategy, capability positioning and campaign development, supported by strong market insights and competitor analysis. You will lead proactive and reactive media relations, build strong relationships across Defence media and government communications networks, and ensure high‑quality internal communication that supports culture, change and organisational alignment. Your leadership will extend across digital strategy, content development and the delivery of major events, exhibitions and capability showcases, ensuring all activity meets security, safety and compliance requirements.
As the leader of a multidisciplinary team, you will manage budgets, agency partnerships and governance obligations, ensuring compliance with Defence security protocols, export controls and information handling standards. You will maintain close alignment with our global Corporate Affairs function to uphold brand integrity, reporting frameworks and international messaging consistency.
To be successful, you will bring
- Australian Citizen with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain).
- Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or related fields.
- Senior leadership experience in marketing, communications, media or public affairs within Defence, aerospace, government or a highly regulated industry.
- Experience managing media relations, including sensitive or high‑stakes issues.
- Proven ability to operate within a global corporate structure, balancing local needs with global brand and governance requirements.
