Project Engineering Manager

About the role

 

Reporting to the Engineering Change Manager, the Project Engineering Manager is responsible for all technical and engineering aspects of their assigned projects within the SEA2048 Phase 6 program of works. The Project Engineering Manager will have engineering domain knowledge related to the project systems under their management. The role forms part of the Project Engineering capability with the NSM Engineering Organisation and operates in a matrix management structure. 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Support project team members to manage issues and control risk;
  • Manage technical and engineering scope, time, cost and quality of assigned projects;
  • Support the management of any non-technical dependencies across the project team and with other project stakeholders;
  • Plan, schedule and execute projects with the relevant stakeholders and sub-contractors through the Systems Engineering lifecycle (as defined for the SEA2048 Phase 6 project);
  • Establish and maintain enduring relationships with project stakeholders, sub-contractors and suppliers in a complex management environment;
  • Evaluate and get agreement on any changes that materially impact the scope, quality budget, or schedule of the project;
  • Sub-contractor and supply chain vendor performance management;
  • Produce and manage performance reports;
  • Establish, deliver and maintain the plan, schedule and dependencies / relationships between the SEA2048 Phase 6 team and internal departments;
  • Lead and support strategic change management and business improvement initiatives, as required

 

 

About you

 

Essential requirements:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering;
  • Recognised qualifications in Project Management or equivalent work experience;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in a similar system engineering type projects for at least five years;
  • A sound understanding of project management and commercial processes across the project lifecycle;
  • Demonstrate superior project administration and communication skills
  • Must either hold, or be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to Negative Vetting-1 level;

 

Desirable:

 

  • Previous experience with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and / or the Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG);
  • Excellent negotiation skills, including those skills required to work effectively within a matrix organisation; and
  • Proven record of management and compliance within an engineering governance structure
