Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager the Category Manager will have responsibility for category strategy development and execution across the  Project. Objectives for this role will include:

 

•    Establishing Project specific requirements, including those driven by the future pipeline;
•    Supporting Project growth team to design and engage supply chains that meet future requirements;
•    Delivering tangible, bottom-line benefits to the business resulting from  category management of Spend
•    Supporting the delivery of Project strategies through the rigorous management of contract and supplier performance


The Category Manager will have responsibility for c. £30 - 50M expenditure across specific categories of spend.

 

Role Responsibilities:

 

•    Category Management 
o    Manages category strategies that maximise value for the business based on understanding of business and Project needs and supply market potential
o    Builds deep knowledge of the supply market within the business
o    Execution of the category strategy, including negotiating and contracting with suppliers, evaluating on-going contract and supplier performance and measuring contract compliance
o    Accountability for team members, therefore management and communication skills are imperative 

 

•    Sourcing 
o    Captures specific business requirements and informs Procurement team to enable them to be built into ITT or RFx documents 
o    Executes Project sourcing activity using strategic sourcing methodologies in order to put fit-for-purpose supply contracts in place
o    Accountable for the implementation of pan-Project contracts so that they can be used in practice by the overall Project 
o    Where appropriate, supports major bid activity where there is a significant category requirement

 

•    Supply Management
o    Segmenting and managing suppliers within the category
o    Executing the appropriate strategies to incentivise and engage suppliers and to measure and incentivise their performance
o    Managing appropriate supplier governance, fed by relevant data and attended by empowered representatives of both organisations

 

What do I need to do the role?
 
Education & Professional Qualifications
•    Qualified to degree level or equivalent
•    MCIPS or equivalent professional qualifications


Experience & Background
•    Experienced procurement practitioner with knowledge of current strategic procurement techniques and extensive experience within Sourcing & Procurement
•    Knowledge of relevant Manufacturing categories (glovebox desirable)
•    Experience working in project environments at both biding and delivery phases of lifecycle
•    Proven track record of identifying and delivering procurement savings
•    Management and coordination of Senior Stakeholder engagement.

 

Business Skills & Knowledge
•    High quality communication ability, both written and orally, at all levels
•    Highly commercial, with a proven ability to use procurement to unlock value for the business
•    Delivery focussed with a pragmatic, hands-on approach that enables strategies to be fully executed
•    Ability to operate successfully in dual reporting  or matrix organisations
