In this role, you will:

 

  • Ensure the safe operation of processes under their control
  • Provide coordination and supervision of system verification activities including equipment inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Direct employees during the commissioning of submarine systems and equipment
  • Supervise test and alongside trials shifts at the maintenance site
  • Manage sub-contractors
  • Identify and record defects using Babcock Canada IT applications
  • Lead equipment trouble-shooting, fault diagnosis and to generate proposals for corrective maintenance solutions
  • Ensure that inspection, demonstration, testing and analysis activities verify established technical requirements as well as meet quality and submarine safety program constraints
  • Coordinate and execute safe release of work processes
  • Machinery operation and maintenance activities
  • Strong communication skills in order to maintain close liaisons with Customer, Project Management and Production staff to reduce  possible conflicts in testing and safety implications to personnel or materiel can be readily identified and resolved
  • Carry out the role of Test Director when necessary due to system complexity or during off-nominal operational scenarios
  • Develop and maintain consistent Labour relations and facilitates productivity improvement opportunities
  • Conduct Sea Trials as required by the Commissioning Manager (not mandatory).

 

As our ideal candidate,

 

  • Strong technical skills including post-secondary education or apprenticeship in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • Eligible for recognition as AScT, CTech, EIT or P.Eng designation, as applicable, in British Columbia
  • Experience with ISO Standard 15288 and systems engineering life-cycle an asset
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Guideline 0-2013 commissioning processes, system optimization and ongoing commissioning an asset
  • Experience with functional and non-functional system inspection, demonstration and performance testing in new construction or retro-commissioning
  • Experience with measurement and analysis activities
  • Experience with LEED V4 Fundamental or Enhanced commissioning an asset
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office suite
  • Ability to work with minimal direction
  • Marine or offshore oil and gas drilling experience desirable
  • Naval vessel operational or maintenance experience an asset
  • Submarine operational experience and equivalent machinery operator qualifications in a senior capacity an asset
  • Field functional testing of control components
  • Experience with Alternating Current systems and power distribution control systems
  • A proven knowledge of Direct Current control systems / motor control / generator testing a distinct asset
  • Control and monitoring system testing experience desirable
  • Knowledge of lead acid or lithium ion battery systems desirable
  • Naval mission system equipment experience including sonar, navigation, tactical, communication, weapon discharge and handling systems, an asset
  • Experience with fibre optic applications, cable characteristics, connectors, termination, inspection and testing, an asset
  • Knowledge of uninterrupted power supplies and switching, an asset
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
