In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead the Mechanical section of the Marine Design Drawing Office (MDDO) and act as the mentor to the Technical Leads for the Mechanical discipline
  • Manage the Mechanical Group in accordance with the company procedures setting clear objectives for training and development, health & safety, personnel, quality and project control requirements.
  • Review existing controls and identification of new controls to provide quality assurance compliance to customers and Babcock management.
  • Manage specific multi-centre project budgets as identified by the MDDO Manager.
  • Supervise, plan and control the work programme for the Mechanical discipline within the MDDO. Monitor the group’s performance to achieve agreed schedule dates and budget objectives providing progress reports as required.
  • In line with the business needs, identify the appropriate Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) to undertake the identified work packages & continually develop the team to their full capability through coaching & the appraisal process
  • Assess and manage work content and resources.
  • Assess and manage work content and compile work breakout estimates for the group’s work packages to assist the MDDO Manager in evaluating overall cost/time resource requirements
  • Approve design drawing packages produced by the Mechanical group to give the assurance that the technical quality and safety content conforms to the customer’s specification
  • Provide specialist interpretation of technical and engineering requirements of the customer’s specification.
  • Provide technical advice to DND Design Authorities and Babcock Design Agents to effect changes to Engineering Procedures and determine policy on installation / modification work.
  • Organize on-site survey work and technical inspections/support at Canadian waterfront locations 
  • Provide technical liaison services, solutions, advice and information to enable production tasks to be progressed in timely and cost effective manner.
  • Manage staff in accordance with company procedures.
  • Other duties as agreed with the MDDO Manager.

 

As our ideal candidate,

 

  • You hold a minimum of a College Technologist Diploma in a relevant field and are eligible to be certified as a AScT by ASTTB
  • 8-12 years relevant experience in the design elements related to mechanical installations; direct marine experience an asset
  • 8-12 years relevant experience in a design environment
  • 3-5  years’ experience in managing a team of technical personnel
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of mechanical related equipment, systems, materials, and processes together with an appreciation of inter-discipline interfaces and drawing and documentation support systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks an asset
  • Experience of providing installation guidance instructions for Engineering Changes that ensures they can be implemented, maintained, procured and manufactured without need for further iteration
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
