In this role, you will:

 

  • Work within the waterfront Naval Architecture team to support structural surveys, including both on-site and office work;
  • Support and conduct visual inspections and surveys within a variety of submarine compartments and in varying conditions with potential difficulties for access;
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary technical team to help develop unique solutions to complex structural repair challenges related to submarines;
  • Support the assessment of steel and fiberglass submarine structures against relevant codes and standards to determine if repairs are required;
  • Compile visual inspection findings and produce narrative survey reports;
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications for the repair of submarine steel structures; and
  • Conduct quality assurance activities on behalf of the technical team to verify completion of key steps in the submarine repair sequence.

 

The ideal candidate brings:

 

  • A minimum of a College Technologist Diploma in a relevant field and an eligibility to be certified as an AScT by ASTTBC;
  • An attention to detail and a demonstrated ability and aptitude to problem solve technical issues;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong teamwork skills and an ability to effectively work in an environment with frequently changing and competing priorities;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced commercial shipyard environment is an asset;
  • Practical experience working with marine platform systems an asset; 

  • Proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that you must have received the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date; and
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
