In this role, you will work collaboratively with the Head of Community Engagement to lead Babcock Canada’s Indigenous Relations Strategy in Western Canada, with a focus on British Columbia and Alberta.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Be a champion for economic reconciliation and Indigenous cultural awareness within Babcock Canada.
  • Work with the Head of Community Engagement in progressing Babcock’s commitment of meaningful and innovative engagement with Indigenous communities, businesses, and other partners to establish long term partnerships.
  • Support supply chain efforts to increase spend on Indigenous businesses by identifying and initiating relationship building with potential Indigenous suppliers.
  • Support Human Resources in the execution of Babcock Canada’s Indigenous Workforce Strategy.
  • Provides strategic advice, ongoing reporting, and/or presentations to relevant stakeholders regarding Indigenous engagement and consultation.
  • Liaise with Indigenous employment and training organizations, community colleges, technical institutes, and universities.
  • Lead cross-functional working groups (including Business Development, Supply Chain and Human Resources) on strategic initiatives.
  • Communicate any national, regional and local Indigenous issues that could affect operations and growth opportunities.
  • Engage with Indigenous communities through participation in various activities such as celebrations and community building.

 

The ideal candidate brings:

 

  • A minimum of 10 years directly related experience in the field of Indigenous relations, business development, project management or supply chain management.
  • Demonstrated Indigenous peoples cultural and business awareness, with ability to collaborate effectively with community leaders to build lasting relationships.
  • An exceptional ability and demonstrated experience interacting with Indigenous community leaders and members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate well with stakeholders from across the company.
  • Strong collaborative, conflict negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute effective community engagement strategies.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time, throughout BC and occasionally to other parts of Western Canada.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous communities in British Columbia, specifically Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations, other Coast Salish communities, Métis, and those on the BC mainland.
  • A post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Business Development, Human Resources, Education and Training, Supply Chain Management etc.). Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous studies would be an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
