In this role, you will:

 

  • Provide waterfront support to the Naval Architecture team for Hull and Structural Surveys, including both on-site and office work. The day to day workings of the job entail working with an interdisciplinary technical team to help develop unique solutions to complex challenges related to submarines.
  • Inspect and survey steel submarine structure, compile your findings and produce survey reports.
  • Assess steel and fiberglass submarine structural surveys to relevant codes and standard to determine if and what types of repairs are necessary.
  • Review NDE reports (including UT, RT, MPI and VT) and categorize structural and weld defects.
  • Support the generation and review technical repair specifications of steel submarine structure.
  • Work with shipyard production personnel and the project management team to expedite work in a timely fashion.

 

The ideal candidate brings:

 

  • A minimum of a College Technologist Diploma in a relevant field and eligibility to be certified as an AScT by ASTTBC.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience including experience in structural survey.
  • You will have strong teamwork skills and an ability to effectively work in an environment with competing priorities.
  • You possess the ability and aptitude to problem solve technical issues.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced commercial shipyard environment is an asset.
  • Proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that you must have received the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date.
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
