General Description of Job


The Installation Technician (Electrical) is responsible to the Installation Team Leader to conduct electrical, data and mechanical installation and maintenance activities at remote sites. The role also provides short-term resource for various Service Delivery tasks and Task Services Form (TSF) activities. The role does require regular travel and sustained deployment at locations both in the UK and overseas.


Main tasks

  • To work under the direction of an Installation Team Leader and provide installation, as required, for electrical, data, mechanical and communication equipment at various locations
  • To assist the Installation Team Leader to ensure that all installation related documentation is submitted for approval prior to undertaking any installation activities and again on completion of all tasks; including method statements and risk assessments
  • To ensure that appropriate engineering standards, as dictated by Babcock standards, or professional bodies, ensuring best practice is employed in all installation activities
  • To ensure they work in a safe and efficient manner at all times to produce quality assured products.
  • Ensure that all activities undertaken are in compliance with Technical Services BMS processes
  • To contribute to increasing the competiveness of the Programmes and Engineering function
  • To undertake tasks scheduled by the PCPO as and when required, maximising fee paying work, but also supporting operational output on sites, as and when required.


    Technical Experience and Qualifications


  • Must possess, or be able to obtain and retain DV clearance
  • Must possess an adequate knowledge of and compliance with the Health and Safety policy and regulations consistent with their responsibilities
  • Must possess or be willing to gain a Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification
  • Must possess (or be willing to gain) an adequate knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) 2015 regulations
  • Obtain IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Level
  • Must possess a full UK Driving License.


Specific Electrical Qualifications and Skills


  • Time served electrical apprenticeship or City & Guilds parts 1 and 2 in Electrical Installations
  • City & Guilds 2391/2394/2395 certificate of inspection and testing of electrical installations
  • City & Guilds 2392 level 3 certificate of inspection and testing of electrical installations
  • Working knowledge of electrical installations (Basic record of proven ability in related work)
  • City & Guilds 2377-22 Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
  • Working knowledge of the Code of Practice for the In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (4th Edition)
  • BS7671 (Latest Edition) Electrical Wiring Regulations Incorporating latest amendments.


Specific Data Qualifications and Skills


  • City and Guilds 3466 (structured cabling installation and testing)
  • Fibre optic installation, splicing and testing (basic record of proven ability)
  • Cat 5 / 5e installations, termination and testing (basic record of proven ability)
  • Cat 6 installations, termination and testing (basic record of proven ability).


Specific Rigging Qualifications and Skills




  • Completed Basic Aerial Erection courses or an equivalent up to date course (OPITO Stage 1 or similar Rigger Training) and Advanced climber &Tower Rescue courses
  • Consistent application in the management of rigging techniques
  • Up to date with new technology/developments
  • Appropriate Climbing at Heights qualifications
  • Able to maintain the required level of medical fitness for rigging work.
