Workshop Manager

About the role

 

Here at Babcock International we’re looking to recruit a Workshop Manager to join the senior operational management team on site. Workshop Managers are there to lead, inspire, support and manage their people enabling their teams to deliver the required outputs efficiently and safely. The purpose of this role is to effectively manage the businesses operational resource in order to safely deliver the required output against the plan(s). This role makes resource prioritisation decisions to best achieve the current (plus any subsequent amendments) to the output plan using the resources available.

 

Main Tasks include:

 

• Managing employee lifecycle (recruitment through to exit processes) and employee relations (disciplinary, grievance, welfare)
• Performance management (including objective setting, appraisals, managing poor performance, reward/recognition)
• Managing resource levels (absence management, annual leave, use of overtime)
• Delivering Company and site specific communications
• To coach/mentor and develop staff
• Managing succession planning and allocated overtime budget and authorise use for Supervisory staff
• Making the decisions on resource allocation and movements between work centre
• Continually looking 4 weeks in advance for available resource/capacity vs demand plan and reacting to misalignments
• Where behind plan making decisions how to; recover / mitigate  / flag risk upwards
• Reporting production progress (and risks) upwards where required 
• To conduct monthly safety tours of their area(s)

 

What do I need to do the role?

 

You will be Educated to Level 4 in National Qualification Framework (NQF) as a minimum (Higher apprenticeship, HNC, Level 4 NVQ) or equivalent workplace experience and completed relevant managerial Health and Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, British Safety Council) as well as relevant management development courses.

 

You will also have previous experience in similar complex Workshop environments, particularly within the military.
