This is an exciting opportunity to join Babcock International as a Lead Design Engineer. Babcock International Group is a FTSE 250 business and is the UK’s leading engineering support services organisation. Your role will involve running your own projects, being responsible in delivering those programmes through technical support, reporting on your progress and be able to lead in an efficient and effective manner. 


Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a Lead Design Engineer to lead and co-ordinate design projects and oversee the completion in respect to design issues and to produce effective design solutions. Providing technical support to Design Engineers, Project Engineers, Site Engineers, and clients. To liaise closely with the Design Manager, other Senior Design Engineers and internal/external customers ensuring project, programme and budgetary controls at all times.


What will you be doing?

•    Managing day to day overhead line design activities, liaising closely with the Design Manager

•    Acting not only as project lead but also in the capacity of senior design resource in support of other projects by delivering high quality design outputs when required

•    Maintaining up-to-date working knowledge of National Grid, SPEN, ENA and other relevant industry standards

•    Liaising regularly with other Engineers and Technicians to maximise productivity manuals and assist in the provision of technical advice and support to Babcock personnel and clients

•    Assist the development of external design resources relevant to role and utilise wherever required

•    Continually assess and review contract programme within design and innovation teams

The experience you’ll bring 

•    B.Eng or BSc in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering, with honours; or HND plus relevant experience

•    PLS POWER & PLS CADD Knowledge and Understanding
•    Detailed knowledge of current OHL design specifications
•    People/Project Management
•    Production of technical reports
•    Appreciation of mechanical design and systems, geotechnical data and specialist foundations
