Progression & Development Coach (PDC)
About the role

Purpose of role: To manage, support and drive the progression of PEQF students from sign up to completion ensuring progression milestones are completed on target and any additional support is managed.


Major tasks and activities:
• To ensure allocated PEQF students meet set progression milestones
• Provide appropriate and effective feedback to students
• To effectively diary manage to ensure all students within allocated caseload are fully supported to meet company and contractual requirements
• Effectively schedule, prepare for and manage progression meetings with PEQF students in line with their individual timetable while balancing operational needs
• Support the student through their functional skills (where necessary) to ensure timely completion
• Support the on-boarding of PEQF students
• Development of individual action plans to address progression concerns
• Ensure progression reviews take a holistic approach across all components of the programme.  Ensure feedback from all relevant stakeholders (Babcock, HEI and MPS) is factored into the reviews
• Provide or engage with the relevant area to ensure the student is fully supported throughout the programme.  Including management of progression issues and concerns


Additional key accountabilities:
• Act as one of the Designated Persons (DP) for safeguarding across the contract
• Ensure Prevent and E&D is embedded into the progress reviews
• Build strong relationships with all stakeholders to ensure the best support can be provided to the student in order to maintain progression and resolve issues
• Ensure programme IT systems contain up to date, relevant and accurate data in relation to PEQF student progression
• Ensure all Babcock policies, processes and procedures are maintained and promoted, specifically those related to security, equality, diversity and inclusion; health, safety and environmental, and welfare and safeguarding
• Work within established company policies and procedures, including those related to government funding rules
• Maintain professional and current skills and qualifications through company training and other development opportunities. Ensure all Continuous Professional Development is recorded
• Promote the sharing of ideas across the contract
• Ensure Babcock and MPS Security, Health and Safety, Environmental, Information Assurance, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Welfare & Safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times within all areas of responsibility
• Build a positive team culture, based on the company values which promotes equality, diversity and inclusion


Key outputs / deliverables:
• Achievement of agreed KPIs
• Students’ progress in line with agreed outputs and set KPIs
• Timely and overall completion targets met
• Minimise out of funded students (i.e. those past their completion date)
• Personalised actions plans to support effective progressions for PEQF students and to ensure timely resolution of issues
• Highly organised, well communicated and on track caseload
• Functional skills completed in line with KPIs
• An outstanding experience to students on the programmes
• Programmes delivered in line with Babcock and HEI quality standards
• Ensure provision delivery meets a minimum of a grade 2 Ofsted grade (measured through internal inspection)
• CPD logs accurately maintained
• Student records are kept up to date
• Ensure safeguarding of all students


Describe with whom the role regularly interfaces:

• Students
• MPS staff (e.g. Line Managers, Tutor Constables, Coaches)
• HEI partners (e.g. Lecturers, Module Leads)
• Inspection bodies (OfS / QAA / Ofsted)


• Line Manager and PEQF management team
• Other PEQF staff (e.g. Lecturers, Module Leads, IQA)
• Apprenticeship Services
• Planning and administration team


Security status:
• Requires enhanced DBS through the Disclosure and Barring Service and military security clearance
NPPV 2 (possibly 1)


What do I need to do the role?


Key technical skills / competencies:
• Excellent literacy, numeracy and communication skills
• Ability to support, motivate and inspire others; driving performance and professionalism
• Strong KPI and performance focus in delivery
• IT literate and able to use a variety of software (including MS Word, Excel PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Industry experience in relevant sector
• Analytical in approach, driving fact based decisions, reports and support


Key behavioural competencies:
• Willing to undertake travel as the role and business needs require
• Demonstrate a high level of organisational skills and self-motivation
• Ability and desire to be flexible around delivery in order to accommodate operational policing demands
• Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Results focused with the ability to work under pressure


Company / industry knowledge:
• Comprehensive understanding of policing and the evidence base current context, challenges and issues, gained either through previous operational or academic experience
• An understanding of the Police Educational Qualifications Framework, Authorised Professional Practice and / or Policing Professional Framework
• Experience of supporting and driving the progression of students delivering apprenticeships or other work-based learning (desirable)


• Strong operational experience in policing (ideally within the MPS)
• Level 2 qualification (or higher) in maths and English
• Educated to degree level or equivalent (desirable)


What else do I need to know?

• All applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and be subject to satisfactory security clearance which includes 3 years reference checks. Verification of any qualifications/passport/licences must be shown at interview stage.
