To deliver airborne and synthetic Rotary Wing Training as part of the UKMTS program

Responsible for the delivery of live and synthetic instruction to future helicopter pilots

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct all aspects of instruction of military RW Training of ab-initio, conversion and refresher pilot training in accordance with RW syllabi
  • Conduct Computer Based Training/Computer Aided Instruction/Synthetic training as required, including ground school lessons and simulated airborne events in accordance with RW syllabi
  • Conduct other tasks related to the Training System as directed
  • Assist the Ascent Chief Pilot as Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) in the development and maintenance of RW courseware
  • Complete Computer Aided Instruction and Synthetic Operator training to be able to deliver RW training
  • Gain and maintain a minimum of a Competent to Instruct (CtoI) certification by Central Flying School to be able to deliver RW training
  • Deliver training to ab-initio, refresher/staff pilots and QHIs in accordance with RW syllabi
  • Assist the Ascent Chief Pilot as Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) in the development and maintenance of RW courseware which is technically correct and meets customer requirements
  • Complete other tasks related to RW training to the satisfaction of the Chief Pilot
  • Produce successful and highly motivated students who excel in the airborne arena
  • Assessment of RW student pilots in accordance with the RW Assessment and Training Strategy throughout their training
  • Complete Sortie Report Forms for all assessed airborne and synthetic training events
  • Recommend updates to RW courseware and syllabuses; periodically
    Knowledge, Skills, and Experience



  • Previous military experience as a Qualified Helicopter Instructor or equivalent qualification in a civil flight training role
  • Minimum of 1000 hours RW first pilot including 250 hours RW airborne instruction
  • Computer fluency to include Windows, Microsoft Office Suite and Explorer



  • A2/A1 QHI or equivalent civilian qualification (TRE/SRE)
  • Military Instrument rating or equivalent civilian qualification
  • Previous instructional experience including but not limited to:
    • Night Vision Device training
    • Tactical training
    • Under-slung Load training
    • Procedural Instrument Flying
  • Previous instructional experience of ab-initio training
  • Qualified Helicopter Tactics Instructor (QHTI)
  • Previous experience in RW synthetic training
  • Current Aviation Medical (Civilian Class 1 or Mil PME)
