About the role

 

Here at Babcock International Group, we are currently looking for 8 Mechanical Design Engineers to join us. We aim to deliver engineering-led and world-leading products and services across our Engineering, Specialised Manufacturing, Gas Handling Systems and Naval Marine business streams.

 

The Energy and Marine Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme. Also, with ongoing additional framework agreements, infrastructure projects, export markets and research & development projects. Therefore, we are seeking individuals who would like to join us at Rosyth, Plymouth or Bristol to support the mechanical design objectives initiatives across these critical projects.

 

As the Mechanical Designer, you will work on the design and development of mechanical engineering solutions for a variety of problems projects in the fields of: shipbuilding, industrial engineering, support to production and nuclear.

 

The role provides an excellent development opportunity that will broaden the skills and experience across the full range of mechanical engineering design.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

There are a variety of tasks – ranging from the following:

  • Professional multidisciplinary engineering
  • Understanding the user requirement, system requirement – taking it into analysis engineering
  • Design solution and then outputs for production
  • Ensure comply with governance
  • Ensure the requirements are met to work against standards

What do I need to do the role?

 

The role will require the candidate to:

 

  • Involvement in matching detail design
  • Generating outputs
  • Designing & reviewing mechanical systems – pipe work, valves
  • Take basic design and take it into detailed design level
  • Prepare & produce drawings throughout design lifecycle and in line with recognised ISO standards to the required; time, cost and quality requirements.

 

The candidate shall also have experience in some of the following:

 

  • Relevant highly regulated industry experience (naval / commercial marine desired)
  • Design of piping systems
  • Mechanical design experience
  •  Appropriate CAD skills

 

Ideally, you will hold an ONC/HNC/HND (or equivalent) OR BTEC National Certificate/Diploma (or equivalent) OR appropriate Apprenticeship of specialisation demonstrable relevant experience and capability.

 

What else do I need to know?
 
You will work 37 hours per week with flexible working and you must be able to achieve the appropriate level of Security Clearance.
