The Role

For the first year, you will study full time at college, working towards your SVQ2 and NC. After this, for the following 3 years, you will work Monday-Thursday at Babcock’s Rosyth Dockyard and learn what it’s like to be part of a time in a real life working environment.

A machinist will be expected to work with some/all of the above materials in a wide range of thicknesses from 1mm to 200mm and above, in their various formats from flat/formed plate, round, tubular, cast and forged condition.

During your training you will learn how to interpret engineering drawings and how to manufacture products in the most productive and efficient manner by using manual and CNC turning/milling and other machining / inspection techniques. Your skill will be endorsed by a committed and positive attitude to good quality.

Our apprentice starting salary for this position is £10,665. Successful completion of each year of your apprenticeship results in a salary increase, with a tradespersons salary of £28,414 on offer if awarded a contract upon completion of your training programme.
