About the role

Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence Company, has been awarded a contract by the UK Ministry of Defence to deliver its newest fleet of warships. The Type 31 general-purpose frigate programme will provide the UK with a fleet of five ships.

 

The frigates will be assembled at Babcock's Rosyth facility, and involve supply chains throughout the UK, in line with the UK's national shipbuilding strategy.

 

Babcock's Arrowhead 140 frigate is a capable, adaptable and technology-enabled global ship with a proven design and build strategy.

 

To support the delivery of this contract, we are currently recruiting for Buyers; to be responsible for delivering end-to-end supply chain management duties, including strategic supplier sourcing, contract negotiation and ongoing supplier relationship management


Your key deliverables will include:

  • Captures specific project requirements and builds into supply chain requirements
  • Design of a supply solution to meet project requirements and maximise performance whilst minimising risk and complexity
  • Maintaining interfaces with Group and Divisional category strategies where they impact upon project
  • Managing sourcing and tendering processes in accordance with agreed project deliverables
  • Leading negotiations with suppliers to ensure that the most cost effective supply solutions are obtained
  • Ensuring that the Company’s commercial position is best protected and is properly reflected within formal subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Ensuring that all technical and quality requirements are fully satisfied and that all material and service requirements are supplied in accordance with Project schedules
  • Establishing supplier performance monitoring and development initiatives
  • Coordination with Operational Procurement Managers to ensure project requirements are executed on time
  • Responsible for managing change through project


What do I need to do the role?

 

  • Experience in Buyer roles or similar – essential
  • Background in Engineering, Construction or Defence sectors – desirable
  • MCIPS qualified or working towards - desirable
  • Working knowledge of MoD contract terms - desirable

  • Permanent role
  • Salary up to £35,000 per annum (dependant on experience)
  • Based at Rosyth Dockyard in Fife, Scotland
