About the role

We currently have an opportunity for a Marine Systems Principal Support Engineer working with team.

To deliver exacting technical advice and engineering support for Queen Elizabeth and Type 45 Class marine systems and equipment.  Through specialist domain knowledge, act as the point of contact for System Technical Authority Chief Engineers in their respective area.  This includes the carrying out of complex technical investigations, making recommendations to the System Authorities and customer, aligned to engineering governance and delegated levels of technical responsibility.

What do I need to do the role?

You’ll deputise for Technical Support Manager (Portsmouth) in their absence and work with the MSSP Safety Manager to progress hazard assessments and issue safety advice to the System Authorities.

Would also like you to have experience in all or some of these areas:

  • Evaluate complex reactive engineering technical issues and, through the application of systems engineering principles, make technical recommendations.
  • Provide robust technical advice including developed action plans aligned to MSSP engineering governance and delegations.
  • Evaluate technical investigations and analyses, including evaluation and selection of technical options, preparing reports with recommended courses of action.
  • Operate the MSSP Helpdesk, to include the use of ‘InIn’ Telephony System, as required per rotational roster.
  • Contribute to an out of hour’s service, to include Bank Holidays and Christmas Shutdown Period, capable of escalating a technical query or issue in proportion to the UK Operational Imperative.
  • Contribute to system and equipment life cycle development, working closely with the functions of Technical Authority.

Lastly, you’ll provide management information as required and identify opportunities and lead improvements to the MSSP reactive engineering service.  You will conduct Performance Appraisal Reports for assigned personnel within set timelines

What else do I need to know?

  • We are happy to talk about flexible working.  Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.
