Finance Manager


  • Portsmouth
  • £60,000 - £65,000 per annum
  • 12 month fixed-term contract

About the role

Babcock International Group are seeking a Finance Manager to join our Emergency Services & Training division, who deliver extensive training, apprenticeship and support programmes to industry leaders in sectors such as automotive, rail, retail, energy and emergency services.


In this role, you will provide financial management to a number of key contract programmes within the business unit, supporting the operational management with appropriate financial information allowing the business to make sound business decisions in the long and short term. You will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day running of the finances for your allocated contracts.


Your key duties will include:

  • Liaise with and support of Operational Management teams to provide a high level of financial expertise
  • To use financial information to constructively challenge business activity in order to increase profits, improve efficiencies, identify and minimise any potential risks.
  • Supervise, support and develop the Finance team to ensure that the finance department adds value to the business.
  • To ensure the provision of monthly and annual accounts, budgets, rolling forecasts and strategic plans to agreed business timetables
  • Actively participate in business and contract reviews
  • Ensure business dashboards are current and relevant to the business and delivered in a timely fashion
  • Provide insightful information and expectations to the management team to aid long and short-term decision-making.
  • Provide support in bidding activity, including co-ordinating, testing and presenting bid financial information to the Emergency Services and Training Management team
  • Support and manage internal and external audit requirements, including ensuring timely resolution of audit findings and comments
  • Responsible for tight balance sheet management and control (with regular balance sheet and contract reviews)
  • Work with the Emergency Services and Training reporting team to forecast and manage weekly cash-flows and meet the prompt payment code.
  • Timely and accurate preparation of monthly management packs, management accounts, cash-flow submission, budgets, forecasts,  quarterly statutory accounting and tax packs

What do I need to do the role?

We would like you to have experience in all, or some, of the following areas:


  • Qualified Accountant – ACCA / CIMA / ACA or equivalent
  • Finance Business Partnering experience in a large organisation
  • Able to prepare and present difficult and complex financial/operational information in a simple and meaningful way
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Comfortable with travel to other UK sites as required
