About the role:

 
The Babcock Group are in the process of consolidating their systems and moving into a Global Enterprise Management System. As a result, we have a need for a Data Governance Analyst to perform a variety of activities including setting up a data governance framework.

 

A data governance framework refers to the process of building a model for managing enterprise master data. The framework sets the guidelines and rules of engagement for business and management activities, especially those that deal with or result in the creation and manipulation of master data.

 

General duties for the data governance analyst may include developing and implementing data standards, guaranteeing master data is captured correctly, and creating methods for monitoring and reporting any data incidents. The data governance analyst should monitor the business data owners and project teams to ensure they are following data governance procedures and standards. The governance analyst are also required to create and maintain common data dictionaries and the tools or methods that support data standards for the Group globally.

 

The data governance analyst should analyse and oversee strategies designed to enhance data reliability and minimize redundancies or errors. This data governance analyst should work with the Information Asset Owners and Business Data Owners to develop data quality standards.

 

The data governance analyst should create key performance indicators and supply the project group and the management group with performance results.

 

Main Responsibilities:

• Knowledge or understanding of how master data and master  data governance is used in a business context
• Use data to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of internal business operations by the use of standardised data
• Use effective visualisation tools to communicate complex data that is easily used and understood by others
• Collaborate with the business and Information & Insight sourcing teams to develop data and data sets that will improve their ability to manage business processes
• Maintain the integrity and quality of master data and data sets
• Be the Subject Matter Expert in all master data attributes
• Manage and maintain all data governance related documentation for master data such as data dictionary, KPI registers, definitions, standards, business rules, security, and process maps
• Perform as a Data Steward and manage all data change requests in accordance with enterprise data governance standards, policies, and procedures
• Communicate data governance processes and ensure business partners (i.e. inventory, planning, supply chain, asset management) fully understand processes and standards
• Facilitate and promote the usage and adoption of the data governance tools, processes, standards and procedures - particularly among business users
• Develop metrics and reports/dashboards to measure key performance indicators such as data quality, accuracy, completeness, and integrity
• Assist with ongoing examination of current data governance practices and make recommendations to drive improvements in data governance
• Work with the Information Asset Owners to define and develop rules to be implemented data encryption and masking

 

What do I need to do the role?

Experience:

• Ideally experience in SAP data management or ERP data management in general
• Preferably experience in supporting large scale SAP Data Migration Projects
• Experience in setting up a data governance framework
• Preferably experience in information-intensive industries or digitally advanced enterprises
• Strong IT & Microsoft Office skill/experience


Candidates should first and foremost be willing to learn the technologies and aspects they may not have been exposed to in the past. They must also be willing and experienced in sharing their experience and knowledge with others to raise the maturity of this overall capability within Babcock. They should have a record of accomplishment of delivering high quality work, complete, tested and documented.

 

What else do I need to know?

This role is based in Lakeside, Portsmouth. A vibrant and accessible campus that has shops, restaurants, hairdressers and a nursery on site. It has parking for employees and runs a free shuttle bus from city centre trains and bus stops.

This role requires the successful applicant to be a holder of a British Passport (preferably British born) due to the nature of some of the data subjects they might potentially be working with.

You also must have or be able to gain un-caveated MOD SC security clearance and other security clearances as contracts demand; e.g. Met Police, CRB Check.
