The role
As a Welder, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll join a team that is at the forefront of supporting the Royal Navy fleet.
Day to day, you’ll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of warships and systems through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams.
To be considered for this opportunity you must have experience in at least one of the following weld processes FCAW, TIG or MMA
Essential experience
• Have a level 2 qualification in one of the following: Indentured Apprenticeship or in a sheet metal, structural steel or fabrication related discipline or Indentured or Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship in Fabrication & Welding.
• Experience in at least one of the following weld processes, FCAW, TIG or MMA.
• You should hold or have the ability to obtain Security Check Clearance, BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) will be requested first. For further information on this please visit:

The Welder role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.
Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.
