Weapons System Engineer

Defence Systems Technology (DST) is a business unit within the Marine and Technology Division of Babcock International. DST supports a wide range of exciting design, manufacture and equipment support projects, and works with a number of key clients both domestically and internationally. The business continues to win new work and grow at a significant rate and, as a result we are currently recruiting for a talented, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the team.

The team operates out from the Combined Weapons Electrical Workshop (CWEW) situated in the Granby Yard enclave at Devonport. Undertaking defect rectification, repair and overhaul of a wide range of complex systems and equipment in support of the Royal Navy. Exploiting technology is one of the key DST strategies with the team actively developing 3D printing, Virtual Reality and digital twin technology. Main purpose of role

The primarily role is to carry out diagnosis, defect repair, modification and testing of electronic systems and equipment in our electronic repair facility. With DSTs growth agenda we are actively looking for new domestic and international markets, bringing in new systems and technologies. In order to support this, the role will also provide the opportunity to develop new test interfaces and equipment to enable these new repair tasks to be undertaken. This opportunity is our entry level for a hands on engineer who enjoys undertaking the practical repair and testing of electronic equipment and circuit cards down to component level.


Is this you?

  • We are looking for a graduate engineer who is looking for their first role and who has the desire to grow and develop rapidly in an exciting and technically challenging environment.
  • Candidates who have achieved a HNC qualification with demonstrable experience in electronic repair may also be considered.

Key Behaviours and Technical Competencies

  • A self-motivator with good organisational skills.
  • Electrical / Electronic engineering qualification or skills background.
  • Successful candidate must have a strong H&S ethic.


  • Degree or HNC with demonstrable Electrical / Electronic experience.
  • Full UK passport
  • Full UK driving licence. 



  • Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and will be required to complete a medical assessment.
  • The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
