About the Role
Here at Babcock International we’re looking for several Package Managers to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Babcock Strategic Infrastructure provide maintenance to the Dockyard infrastructure, to enable Babcock to maintain the Navy fleet. A new ‘Major Infrastructure Projects’ (MIP) Business Unit will drive the development of said Infrastructure to support the future needs of our customers. The MIP is an enduring capability and there will be a wide range of further infrastructure projects to come. As a Package Manager you’ll lead and deliver distinct packages of work as defined by the Project Manager, within the major project. 

Using your considerable experience and knowledge of Civil works, mechanical or electrical systems/services, construction management and/or building demolition within a marine led environment you’ll develop plans, schedules and control of work information for defined packages, integrating with the wider project(s). You’ll be responsible for ensuring the scope of work definition will satisfy the project / package requirements; effectively managing the resources in matrix delivery organisation, influencing and leading the individual work stream/function and for managing third party suppliers to achieve the desired programme outcomes. You’ll also develop, monitor, forecast and report against budget, as well as establishing and maintaining governance arrangements for the delivery of the project.

What do I need to be able to do the role?
You’ll be educated to degree level in an engineering/project/construction management or related discipline, or have a minimum of an HND (note a HND or equivalent level would need to be justified by a greater level of experience).


We would also like you to have all or some of the following:

  • APM PM Qualification PMQ, preferably to Registered Project Professional.
  • Full project lifecycle experience from bid phase through to close out
  • Demonstrable experience with Building Information Modelling
  • Experience of leading teams on large infrastructure projects
  • Proven experience in commercial aspects of Project enabling and delivery; implementing client changes; the ability to lead on opportunities for contract revenue and margin growth


Lastly, good interpersonal and communication skills are essential attributes for this position, as is the ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders.


What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
