You will be joining a growing team at our Devonport site. Within the Facilities Engineering Technical Authority you will provide engineering support and advice and undertake design activities relating to Mechanical Systems across and within the dockyard facilities. This includes the maintenance and control of modifications to the design intent of mechanical systems and equipment across the Devonport Site, Devonport Nuclear Licensed Site and Ministry of Defence Authorised Site. You will be a core member of the Mechanical Systems team, delivering design solutions and technical authority responsibilities to the business.

Who we are looking for?
We are looking for a Senior Engineer to maintain and control modifications to, and deviations from, the design intent of nuclear implicated and non-nuclear mechanical systems and acting as the custodian of reference design documentation. You will work primarily with process plant and piping systems. You will be responsible for undertaking design activities from requirements capture, design development, implementation and close out, to through-life support, decommissioning and disposal. You will be focused on ensuring compliance with License Conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards, producing design guidance, substantiation and analyses, and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales.

What will you be doing?
•    Management of staff reporting to the post holder in accordance with Company procedures and to include organising appropriate ongoing training, mentoring and developmental support for staff.
•    Lead the provision of advice to line management and other key stakeholders, on the implementation and maintenance of design documentation and compliance with relevant codes, standards and legislation both nuclear and non-nuclear
•    Performing, and where appropriate checking, design analyses and associated activities
•    To support the Mechanical & Nuclear Process Group Manager and Principal Engineer Mechanical Services as Technical Authority for maintaining the Design Intent of Mechanical Systems owned and operated by Babcock Marine Division at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
•    To support the Principal Engineer Mechanical Services in the provision, management and development of professional engineering designers under their control in support of Babcock Nuclear Defence Division, MOD and Commercial Project operations, in relation to Mechanical Systems installations and proposals.
•    Produce estimates and assist commercial departments in the production of outgoing tender responses. Provide technical analysis of incoming tenders. Resolution of design sub-contract technical queries

The experience you’ll bring 
You will need a proven background as a Mechanical Building Services Engineer with knowledge of mechanical services systems;
•    Steam & Condensate Systems
•    Industrial Gases
•    Demineralised Water, Salt Water & Chilled Water
•    Domestic Water Services
•    Technical substantiation
•    Computer aided design and engineering, and 
•    Demonstrable experience of having applied the whole design lifecycle. 
•    The successful candidate will be degree qualified to Level 6 in an applicable subject, or lower with significant experience.
•    Demonstrate appropriate experience in a relevant position and be professionally registered with an engineering institution e.g. CIBSE, IET, IMechE.
