About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Buyer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

 

The Babcock Marine and Technology (M&T)Supply Chain forms part of the Procurement and Supply Chain function in Naval Nuclear managing  requirements including material procurement, equipment overhaul and repair, to ensure availability to support the various Submarine programmes.

As a Senior Buyer you’ll work within the Submarines business area supporting the bidding and planning and execution for complex submarine projects.

 

You’ll utilise your previous procurement and supply chain environment experience to commercially represent the company and manage a small procurement team who provide support to the M&T Supply Chain in the provision of Goods and / or Services at the best total acquisition cost, consistent with the specified technical, quality assurance and delivery requirements which are critical to the success of this business.

 

What do I need to be able to do the role?


You’ll be educated to Degree level in a relevant discipline. An MCIPS qualification would be highly advantageous, however part qualification is acceptable. Lean Six Sigma certification is also highly desirable.

We would also like you to have some or all of the following:
• Experience of using MPS & MRP systems
• Understanding of manufacturing in highly pressurised environments
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel

Lastly, you’ll have exceptional planning and organisation skills with an eye for detail and the ability to see the bigger picture.  You’ll need to be able to work under your own initiative and complete tasks on time within dynamic CI environments..

 

What else do I need to know?
• The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
