We have progressive opportunities for Safety Engineers to join us at Babcock to make a real impact in supporting nuclear and radiological safety at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. In joining our team, you will be significant in transforming, sustaining and improving HMNB Devonport to meet the demands of the Royal Navy and its future requirements. The Safety Engineering Team is established from a diverse mix of skillsets, backgrounds and experiences, which will allow you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience and further your career as a Safety Engineer.
 
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for Scientists or Engineers to join us as Safety Engineers. In this position you will support projects across the Dockyard, from the existing nuclear and radiological facilities to the design of brand new facilities for the maintenance and upkeep of the Royal Navy submarine fleet.

 

What will you be doing?
As a Safety Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the production and modification of Safety Cases, whilst also providing technical advice to Plant Managers to support safety critical operations. 

 

In this role you will:
•    Support hazard identification activities including HAZOPs, Checklists and Walkdowns
•    Undertake safety assessments including the application of deterministic and probabilistic analysis techniques and the production of fault schedules and fault/event trees
•    Inform the design of nuclear and radiological facilities to ensure that risks are reduced to a level which is tolerable and ALARP
•    Author and check technical documentation

 

The experience you’ll bring 
You will be educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline.

 

It is desirable but not essential to have knowledge and experience in the following:
•    Hazard Identification Techniques
•    Safety Analysis Techniques
•    Technical Report writing

 

You will need to possess good interpersonal skills and be competent in verbal and written communication, as you operate and interface effectively with Senior Managers and internal stakeholders.

 

Although previous safety engineering experience is beneficial, we at Babcock will provide a combination of formal and on the job training to help you develop these skills. If you’re keen for a new and rewarding challenge, then this is a great opportunity to hone and develop your skills in the nuclear industry.

 

You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
