About the Role
Here at Babcock International we’re looking for 3 new Project Engineers to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The Nuclear Facilities Project Delivery Team supports Devonport’s Nuclear Infrastructure to ensure it is available to support Submarine maintenance programmes. The 9 Dock readiness programme includes major structural changes, as well as major upgrades to the dockside cranes, mechanical and electrical services and refuel facilities.

As a Project Engineer you’ll be supporting the delivery of a variety of complex engineering upgrades to the site’s nuclear infrastructure, in preparation of the submarine’s Deep Maintenance Period (DMP). Your activities will include, but won’t be limited to: support of the planning and scheduling of project activities; management and delivery of distinct controllable tasks/activities; development of control of work information; production of project reports/metrics; management of technical documents’ reviews/verification, as well as method statements, deviation reports, drawing issues, change clearance certificates, Scope of Works, Inspection Test Plans, and Lifetime Quality Records. You’ll also be responsible for the provision of site inductions and the management sub-contractors, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulation as well as nuclear safety compliance.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll hold a minimum of ONC (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline and have relevant experience of working within the marine / engineering industry. Significant experience in technical documentation of major projects is essential for this post.

We would also like you to have some or all of the following:

  • Understanding of Dockside Services/Facilities
  • Understanding of Project Management Tools and the Project Lifecycle; APM Project Fundamentals (Desirable).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and Visio
  • Submarine Quality Assurance Course (Desirable)

Lastly, you’ll be a proactive and motivated team worker with strong interpersonal and effective communication skills (both written and verbal). You’ll also be highly organised with well-developed editorial and briefing skills.

What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.

Babcock offers a supportive environment including: enhanced employment terms and conditions, money purchase pension scheme with life assurance, share ownership scheme, Occupational Health services, career opportunities and specialist advice and guidance from our Learning & Development teams.
