About the role:
Here at Babcock International we are currently recruiting for an experienced Chartered Mechanical Engineer to carry out design focused tasks across our Major Infrastructure Projects to support delivery of mechanical systems.
Overall Department Direction
Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) is delivering facilities to support future capability within Devonport. One project is the upgrade of 10 Dock to support submarine dockings. This role will support delivery of the design for the upgrade. This is a full time permanent role.
Main Purpose of Role
The role of Principal Engineer – Mechanical will support the design of mechanical systems for both the submarine and the facility.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
• Design of mechanical and nuclear process systems e.g. fresh water, demineralised water, radioactive effluent processing etc.
• Design of industrial gas systems e.g. low and high pressure air, welding gases etc.
• Design of mechanical building services
Qualifications
• Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council.
Grade
This position is within the Strategic Infrastructure business unit as a Grade 7 which has a salary of £50,510.00 - £55,000 with DRDL Terms and Conditions - starting salary will be dependent on skills and experience.

This role can be based remotely but with occasional monthly travel to Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in the vibrant city of Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England. Plymouth is a city with a long and proud military history and more than its fair share of heritage. Business Area - Devonport
Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site at Devonport is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport – one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.
Babcock and the Ministry of Defence work in partnership to operate and maintain this co-located site by providing through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment.
Babcock has a large design and technology capability providing a wide range of support activities including feasibility and project definition studies, detail design and draughting, development trials, noise and vibration analysis, structural analysis, project management, integrated logistic support and risk management.
