About the role
Babcock International are looking to recruit a Principal Design Engineer. Responsible for Mechanical and Marine designs on various projects throughout Devonport – you  will be supporting throughout the yard and adapting to various tasks including technical reporting, design lifecycle and technical support, continued design reviews with the ability to communicate to various teams in the engineering design.


The role requires demonstrable experience in the development of Mechanical and Marine engineering systems on marine platforms, experience of using analytical engineering software in support of design development and appraisals, experience of leading Design Reviews either as the Technical Lead or as the Project Technical Authority, experience of leading multi-disciplinary design teams in the execution of project deliverables, experience of supporting and/or leading bid supports, experience of working with Production Teams as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills

What do I need to do the role?


You will need proven experience in design analysis, ability to take a lead position (ideally C.Eng). Positive leadership experience and background


We would also like you to have:


  • Mechanical/Marine Engineering Design
  • Analysis of design and producing technical reports and ability to communicate this across different teams.
  • Experience of Nuclear Subs and Complex Warships would be ideal, but not essential.


What else do I need to know?


You should hold or have the ability to obtain full SC clearance and ITAR



This role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England.
