The Power Distribution and Standby Generation (PDSG) team are responsible for providing both technical support and design consultancy for the private electrical power distribution network at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. This includes high voltage and high energy 50Hz and 60Hz distribution, for critical facilities, naval vessels and submarines.


Who we are looking for?

We are looking for a Power Systems Engineer to be part of a team responsible for providing professional and flexible technical solutions to ongoing operations and maintenance across the site coupled with providing support to the Design Consultancy function of the department whose activities are focussed on the provision of new, or modification to; designs, equipment and facilities, as well as injection of new capabilities and undertaking life extensions activities.

What will you be doing?
•    Maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation;
•    Supporting fault diagnosis and rectification;
•    Undertaking asset condition surveys;
•    Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications;
•    Responding to formal Technical Queries;
•    Design development activities


The experience you’ll bring 

•    You’ll hold a minimum of HNC or equivalent in an Electrical / Electronic Engineering discipline.
•    Comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining electrical power systems
•    Experience in one or more of the following – High Voltage Designs, High Energy Low Voltage Designs, Protection Schemes, Earthing arrangements, Arc Flash Analysis, Network Modelling in ETAP or similar and Amtech
•    Ability to understand and produce electrical engineering drawings, schematics, specifications and reports
•    Experience in carrying out site inspections and surveys 
•    You must be a sole UK national and hold or be capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
