About the role
Here at Babcock International we’re looking for Fabricators to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

 

As a Fabricator you'll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of warships and systems through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi–trade teams. Using your experience gained within the Marine industry you’ll undertake structural alterations and repairs on board ships and submarines. Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications, you’ll manufacture structural modules, fabricate and alter structures in a variety of metals and thickness. You’ll also carry out surveys and pre-refit examinations of bulkheads and marine structural systems.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships - although other relevant experience may be considered.

 

It is essential that you hold one or more of the following qualifications:

  • •  Indentured Apprenticeship relevant to the role
  • •  Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a sheet metal, structural steel or fabrication related discipline
  • •  Level 3 Engineering qualification relevant to the role

 

You will also need to have the following:

  • •  the ability to read engineering drawings and interpret work instructions
  • •  competency in the use of hand held oxy–fuel burning tools
  • •  competency in the use of general workshop machinery/tools specific to fabricating (grinders, disc cutters, guillotines and band saws)

What else to I need to know?

  • We offer a competitive salary, where you have the opportunity to increase your earnings through shift and overtime work, allowing you to potentially take home around £35,000 annually.  Alongside this there is a contributing pension scheme of up to 8% employer contributions. In addition to a competitive salary, you’ll receive additional benefits which make your new role all the more appealing including:
    • 25 days a year annual leave + bank holidays
    • 3 days unpaid leave each year
    • 13:30 finish on a Friday for industrial employees
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to gain security clearance at the appropriate level for this position.
