About the role
We’re looking for a FLM(C) 24 months FTC within the Submarines business unit to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

 

You will manage all production work allocated to targets set on cost, time and quality whilst maintaining safety, environmental and hygiene standards commensurate with the work in progress for your own, other trades and subcontractors where so affected by your work.

 

Using your knowledge you will contribute technical input in deriving best schedules for their own work and the composition/skill base for the team. As required contribute technical input to other multi-disciplined teams within the Ship Zone he/ she operates.  You will control/supervise resources allocated in achieving the main purpose of the job (may be multi-disciplined). As well as control the allocation of the team members using best advantage of individual skills/attribute in meeting productivity, overtime, utilisation targets and delivery targets, reporting progress on a regular basis.

 

In accordance with Company Policy manage discipline and compliance processes and policies of their team.  You will capture and report additional, rework activities, record and report accurate bookings of individual attended contribution in undertaking work activities.

 

As the FLM(C) you will develop, sustain and generate meaningful individual training/improvement programmes.  Provide a focal point for communication for their team and act as good counsel for the team generating teamwork and a safe environment from which high order of working relations may be achieved. 

 

You will deputise for Production Zone Manager during leave periods and any other role as directed by the Production Zone Manager which is deemed to be within the capabilities of the post holder.

 

What do I need to do the role?
You will be qualified to an ONC or equivalent level, in an Engineering / Technical Subject or as determined by the Recruiting Manager due to previous relevant experience.

 

We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:
• Competent in verbal & written communications.
• The ability to interface with managers & customers.
• The ability to manage staff, agency workers and subcontractors as required.
• Confident in managing product safety standards and H&S compliance.
• Understanding of and experience of major structural repairs iaw Lloyd’s Naval Ship Rules.
• Previous experience in an Engineering or Technical Environment relevant to the role
• Computer literate and experienced in operating company systems.

 

What else do I need to know?
• The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
