We have a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Who we are looking for?

As a Mechanical Design Engineer we are looking for you to have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of pressure/pipework systems. You will have knowledge of the design lifecycle and the general legislation, codes and standards than can be applied to nuclear process and pressure system design. We are looking for you to have good communication skills, both verbal and written, including technical report writing with strong attention to detail. You will have good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work with others and independently, and have a professional attitude and approach to work.

What will you be doing?

•    Maintaining and controlling modifications to, and deviations from, the design intent of nuclear implicated process/pressure systems
•    Acting as the custodian of reference design documentation
•    Undertaking design activities from requirements capture, design development, implementation and close out, to through-life support, decommissioning and disposal
•    Ensuring compliance with Licence Conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards
•    Producing design guidance, substantiation, and analyses, and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales

The experience you’ll bring 
You’ll have a minimum of HNC in a relevant engineering discipline and have a proven background as a Design Engineer.

You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
