Babcock is looking to recruit a Contracts Manager to support our work at Devonport Royal Dockyard, HMNB Clyde and also at our Bristol offices. We are a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy.


Main Purpose of Role
As a Contracts Manager, you will be responsible for contract management activities to ensure the financial and commercial interests of the Company are optimised. You will support the achievement of financial targets and ensure that contractual obligations and associated risks are adequately dealt with.
Specific responsibilities will include the preparation of commercial elements for tenders, contracts and contract amendments; which may include reviewing and drafting terms and conditions. Providing support and guidance to the business regarding pricing, terms and conditions and commercial issues as well as regulatory requirements.


You will support commercial discussions and negotiations with customers; prepare and review responses to contract amendments and arrange for their approval. Prepare and review proposed contractual agreements such as NDAs and provide support to the Supply Chain function including identifying appropriate flow down of terms and conditions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
Experience of change management, subcontract management and management of contracts from contract award to contract closeout is highly desirable. Key areas of competency we require will include:

  • Demonstrable contract management experience in a regulated environment.
  • Commercially astute with an understanding of the procurement process.
  • The ability to make decisions within delegated authority and to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Good communication, presentation, networking and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to identify commercial risks, propose steps to mitigate, and communicate effectively.
  • Professional, positive and supportive approach to both suppliers and customers.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and identify concerns about workflow to Line Manager if any concerns are arising.
  • An innovative and flexible approach to interpreting scenarios.
  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent qualifications or experience in a subject related to business (including finance) or law.
  • World Commerce and Contracting (WCC) (previously IACCM) or MCIPS qualifications are highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of MoD contract terms is highly desirable.


You will have demonstrable experience of contracts management as a prime contractor in a regulated environment within a defence, power and process, oil and gas, utilities, nuclear, construction, transmission or the distribution sector.


This position is within the Central Services business unit as a Grade PC with DRDL Terms and Conditions.

This role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England.

Business Area- Devonport
Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site at Devonport is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport – one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.
Babcock and the Ministry of Defence work in partnership to operate and maintain this co-located site by providing through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment.
