Business Support Manager

Here at Babcock international, we’re seeking a highly motivated and energetic Business Support Manager to work within the newly formed Naval Nuclear Support Centre. This new division is a pan-sector support function that develops coherence across the Naval Nuclear business and facilitates cross sector strategy development and delivery.


Our functions include:
• Strategy planning and facilitating the creation and execution of the Naval Nuclear strategy
• Provision of business management information
• Strategic Analysis
• Customer relationship management
• Support to the Naval Nuclear Board


Main Purpose of Role
This Business Support Manager will be responsible for providing business support to the Naval Nuclear executive team through the Head of the Naval Nuclear Support Centre. Working with the senior management team to establish the regular data and reporting needs of the business at a sector level whilst ensuring appropriate governance is applied.


You will provide information and insights to monitor and manage progress on critical priorities. This will include the creation of management frameworks, developing a repository of information, provision of analysed and interpreted information, the creation of business performance metrics, board packs and fulfilling other requests for management information.


In addition, the Business Support Manager will support in the creation of the business strategy packs and robust business plans, including understanding and shaping information on progress against last year’s plan, performance information, budgets and forecasts and tracking mechanisms.


The role / responsibilities:
• Develop frameworks and key measures for high-level performance management tracking on business priorities
• Progress reporting on key issues to drive proactive action and resolution
• Provision of information to support group annual strategy rounds – predominantly internally focussed on business performance
• Collate and present relevant management information to support board decision making. Including the design and production of board packs and provision of material to support the Exec in a range of scenarios
• Interface with the wider business to ensure strategic and local alignment, for example developing links with centre business support teams to align management information flow across the sector
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining the Team SharePoint Site and for proactively developing a comprehensive library of reference documentation
• Responsible for co-ordinating the update, review and timely submission of reports to support the NN sector board
• Develop communication plans to ensure business objectives and strategic priority measures are disseminated consistently and effectively
• Working with strategy analysts the post holder will carry out analysis of performance, opportunities, customers, competitors and partners, in support of the Naval Nuclear business objectives and ensure insights are packaged and presented in an effective usable manner


Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
The role demands extensive research, utilising numerous information sources, collaboration and liaison with other areas of the business and the subsequent presentation of the results in a manner which supports strategic decision making.

The following skills and experience would be advantageous:
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience of software tools used within specialism such as MS Office programmes, SharePoint, MS Visio and Power BI
• Analytical skills with the ability to understand and shape business requirements
• Able to manage a complex workload with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
• Experience of designing metrics and measures and creating performance tracking artefacts such as dashboards
• Demonstrates commercial awareness
• Ability to pull together complex information and present it in a coherent manner and at the appropriate level for the audience. In particular refining and summarising information for senior management
• Experience of analysis of data to provide useful information and insights including business performance, market and competitor analysis
• using tools such as SWOT/ PESTLE
• Experienced in the creation of Board packs, management information, strategy and business plans
• Fosters teamwork and collaboration
• Takes a consistent approach to people and work, uses sound judgement
• Knowledge of the creation of budgets and forecasts


• Educated to degree level in a technical or business discipline or equivalent experience
• Extensive recent and relevant experience in a similar environment/business sector


This position is within the Central Services business unit as a Grade6 which has a salary of £43,445 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.

This role is based at Devonport Royal Dockyard which is located in Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England.
