About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit an Assistant Chief Engineer.


The Maritime Mission Systems team is a specialist engineering team providing direct support to the Major System Design Authorities for weapon systems in the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) and DE&S Director Ships via contracts and Enterprise Agreements. We will be looking to facilitate an integrated service for combat systems and strategic weapons systems across Naval Nuclear and to help ensure that the capability going forward is planned sufficiently to meet customer requirements in the future.

You'll deliver engineering support to Submarine Weapon Engineering systems through a customer focused, collaborative and integrated approach across Naval Nuclear. 


The principal focus of your role is to represent the Chief Engineer to deliver specialist advice and assurance to the planning and delivery of the V-Class overhauls at the Devonport Dockyard. You will be expected to identify and deliver engineering process improvements in support of delivering the project to time, cost and quality.

•    Provide independent assurance for internal Babcock submarine Strategic System SQEP processes and deliverables, where appropriate, and in particular in relation to the safety and security of the customer’s assets.
•    Support internal Babcock submarine Strategic System work through the conduct of audits and continuous improvement activities.
•    Represent Babcock as Assistant Chief Engineer for Strategic Systems as required. 
•    Support the Chief Engineer with design change reviews, impact assessment and technical input to achieve adherence to KP 2.31 (Design Change Management Procedure)
•    Deputise for the Chief Engineer – Strategic Systems as necessary
What do I need to do the role?

You'll need a Level 6 qualification in an engineering or science discipline or equivalent experience.


We would also like you to hold experience in the following:

•    Member of a relevant professional institution (i.e. INCOSE, IET, IMechE, IOP, etc.)
•    Chartered Engineer status or working towards it
•    Working with multi-disciplinary teams
•    Experience in customer-facing roles 
•    Leading or contributing Continuous Improvement activities


Lastly you'll need to have worked with safety-critical systems, change control/change management experience within projects and strategic systems knowledge for submarines.


What else do I need to know?
    The post will be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involves working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. You must hold current, active security clearance or be willing to undergo the necessary process to obtain security clearance.
