Chief Engineer - Submarine Combat Systems
Based at Devonport or Bristol

Babcock International Group, a leading engineering support services company, is currently looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Engineer to fulfil the role of the Chief Engineer for Submarine Combat Systems.

 

Overall Department Direction
Babcock Naval Marine - Engineering Services (ES) business unit provides engineering management and technical support services to enable the delivery of the company’s key contracted outputs to the MoD, essentially to deliver available and capable platforms for the Royal Navy.  Maritime Mission Systems Group within ES contains both Strategic and Combat Systems Engineers who provide engineering support services to the MoD in addition to providing organic engineering support to the wider Babcock Marine Sector across multiple sites

 

Main Purpose of Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced systems engineer to assume a leading role in Babcock’s contribution to the Submarine Combat System Enterprise. You will be based in Devonport OR Bristol with travel to Devonport required, where you will directly contribute to Naval Operations and the provision of safe, available and capable submarines.

 

Key elements of the post are:
• To play a major role in internal assurance for Babcock engineering activity in the field of Submarine Combat System Engineering which include conducting internal and external reviews of complex submarine combat system issues.
• To represent Babcock Submarine Combat System Engineering activity in key Enterprise Groups at the Assistant Chief Engineer level, working collaboratively with industry partners.
• To provide mentoring and development of Babcock Submarine Combat System Engineers
• To act as an internal Babcock subject matter expert on Submarine Combat Systems, providing advice, facilitating coherent information exchange and conducting engineering peer reviews.
• Ensure that we have the required submarine Combat Systems Engineering capability to deliver the customers’ outputs.

 

What do I need to do the role:
You’ll need to have an Engineering degree with suitable experience or a HNC/HND with relevant experience, be a Chartered Engineer, or in the process of gaining Chartered status.

You will be able to demonstrate suitable technical and management experience and knowledge and have sufficient experience in both reviewing and writing complex engineering reports.

 

We would also like you to have:
• A deep knowledge of Submarine Combat Systems and equipment.
• Experience of working with, or as part of, MoD / Royal Navy authorities and sound knowledge of their organisational structure, working practices and policies.
