This role will work with the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) capture team to develop the aviation solution in a joint venture with Leonardo Canada, a world leader in the training sector who can cover the entire pilot training syllabus with a unique range, allowing the training syllabus to be tailored to air force requirements. This partnership between two companies leverages strong footprints in military pilot training, ensuring that the FAcT program will benefit from the expertise and innovation made by two global players, each of which have over 70 years of aircrew training experience delivered around the world.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Training Design team of aviation and training Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • As the most senior training design expert:
    • Design and manage the FAcT program design across multiple locations and multiple platforms including but not limited to:
      • Training schedules for each course
      • Aircraft and Ground Based Training Systems (GBTS) availability
      • Allocation for planned and corrective maintenance
      • Impact of weather on training availability
      • Training delivery workforce proficiency and currency training
      • Accounting of workforce availability
      • Refresher training
      • Description of key risks and mitigation strategies
    • Design and manage FAcT training processes, to include, but not limited to:
      • Training development, curriculum design, methods of media selection
      • Training design
      • Customer/contractor handoff points
      • Courseware internal testing
      • Courseware test and adjust
      • Compliance demonstrations
      • Courseware maintenance
  • Manage a Training Design Database (TDD)
  • Lead SME/Development specialists, to ensure that the analysis of the customer requirement enables detailed curriculum development
  • Ensure traceability of the customer requirement against the training design
  • Develop and manage an annual operating simulation (steady state) for each course, including but not limited to:
    • A simulation (Monte Carlo Analysis) with proposed resource and asset levels showing a successful annual throughput with high level confidence success rate
    • A simulation (Monte Carlo Analysis) with the proposed resource and asset levels showing a successful surge throughput in accordance with High Level Mandatory Requirements (HLMR) with high level confidence success rate
  • Manage courseware (sub contract) relationship
  • Oversee Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS)/Learning Management Systems (LMS)/Training Information Management Systems (TIMS/TMIS) selection and processes
  • Design and manage the creation of the instructional specification, through the use of a training design database, to enable efficient handover of courseware requirements for each lesson to the courseware design team
  • Lead and manage the creation of the assessment specification, through the use of a training design database, to enable efficient handover of courseware requirements for each lesson to the courseware design team
  • Act as lead author for customer bid training documentation
  • Design and implement a robust training program which accommodates student, asset, and trainer availability that allow for rapid design alterations that adapt to changes

 

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

 

  • A post-secondary degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Educational and Instructional Technology, or a related field, with minimum ten to twelve (10-12) years’ experience
  • Recent training design management experience of a major military flying training system, to include, but not limited to:
    • Analysis of customer requirement
    • Outline design of learning objectives
    • Methods of media analysis
    • Creation of courseware definition documentation
    • Management of multimedia courseware design
    • Internal courseware design testing and handover
    • External testing and adjustment
    • Compliance demonstration, corrective processes and final handover
    • Maintenance of courseware
    • Managing changes to customer requirement are varying points in the design process.
  • Demonstrable experience of a military systems approach to training, preferably the Canadian Forces Individual Training & Education System (CFITES)
  • Advanced knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Demonstrable curriculum planning skills
  • Demonstrable experience with learning management systems (LCMS and LMS)
  • A working knowledge of the capability of available training design tools
  • With a preference for Monte Carlo simulations, a working knowledge of similar analysis tools for estimating risk
