Reporting functionally to the Vice-President of Corporate Development and Strategy, while functionally reporting to the Gourp Chief Financial Officer:


You will:

  • Contribute to the overall strategy, direction and performance of the Babcock Canada
  • Lead the Commercial function and its staff across all the activities and businesses in the Defence, Aerospace and Nuclear Sectors, while supporting a culture of collaborative behaviours, development and delivery on commitments
  • Provide the highest quality of commercial advice and services to the company
  • Support the business development functions in growing the business in line with strategic plans, including leading the full cycle of M&A transactions
  • Lead the development, review, and edit of legal documents common to the business such as Non-Disclosure Agreements, Fee Agreements, and Letters of Intent
  • Provide advice to senior leadership and lead the management of commercial risks and issues for the Canadian business including, with the support of legal counsel as appropriate, litigation, arbitration, claims and contract negotiations, awards and terminations
  • Lead and manage the businesses trade control and corporate risk functions
  • Lead the development of customer relationship strategies and establish and develop long-term sustainable relationships/partnerships with new and existing customers
  • Delegate authority for approvals within the Country delegations, and accountable for ensuring  Babcock approvals are in-line and being exercised within Group delegations
  • Protect and develop contractual commercial viability and optimise the commercial position of Babcock, including contract negotiation
  • Ensure commercial risks and issues are effectively managed across the company
  • Interface with senior stakeholders in customer organisations to achieve collaborative working relationships while driving appropriate value for Babcock
  • Establish and implement policies, plans, practices, and processes of legal controls within the company
  • Travel as required to support the needs of the Business including UK, Halifax, Winnipeg and Victoria


The ideal candidate brings:


  • A minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in Commercial Contracting related to this position
  • An excellent communicator with experience leading and managing professional teams
  • Experience of developing and maintaining long-term relationships with public and private sector customers
  • Experience of managing relationships with senior and executive stakeholders in customer organisations
  • Demonstrable experience in contract management and development, preference will be given to those with experience in an Defence, Aerospace or Nuclear background
  • An understanding of the federal governments Industrial and Technological Benefits framework
  • ITAR and Trade control knowledge essential
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that you must have received the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
