In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the overall strategy, direction and performance of the Babcock Canada
  • Lead the Commercial function and its staff across all the activities and businesses in the Defence and Aerospace Sector supporting a culture of collaborative behaviours, development and delivery on commitments
  • Lead the development of customer relationship strategies and establish and develop long-term sustainable relationships/partnerships with new and existing customers
  • Interface with senior stakeholders in customer organisations to achieve collaborative working relationships while driving appropriate value for Babcock
  • Protect and develop contractual commercial viability and optimise the commercial position of Babcock, including contract negotiation
  • Ensure commercial risks and issues are effectively managed across the company
  • Support the business development functions in growing the business in line with strategic plans
  • Work collaboratively with other areas of Babcock and other International Commercial Directors to ensure commercial and customer strategies are aligned and deliver the best outcome for Babcock, including by sharing resource where appropriate
  • Work closely with Procurement and Supply Chain colleagues to meet the business need, including leading the structuring and risk management of commercial solutions to customer’s needs (subcontracts, partnering etc.)
  • Lead material negotiations on behalf of the Babcock as appropriate
  • Delegate authority for approvals within the Country delegations, and accountable for ensuring  Babcock approvals are in line delegations
  • Contribute and lead commercial component of business projects and growth pursuits
  • Provide support to the development of strategies and models in support of major initiatives within the business plan to align to company values, visions and business objectives
  • Line Management responsibility to the VP Corporate Development
  • Professionally accountable to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Provide support to the development of acquisition opportunities
  • Travel as required to support the needs of the Business including UK, Halifax, Winnipeg and Victoria

 

The ideal candidate brings:

 

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in Commercial Contract, Legal or a related field
  • Business or legal degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Significant senior commercial experience in a large, complex organisation
  • Experience in contract management and development within a major Defence or Aerospace contracting environment
  • Detailed knowledge of Government procurement practices and arrangements and experience of interfacing at a senior level with government
  • Experience of developing and maintaining long-term relationships with public and private sector customers
  • Experience of managing relationships with senior stakeholders in customer organisations
  • Ability to work well with a small team as well as the wider Commercial functions within the Babcock International Group
  • Ability to inspire and motivate people to drive the business forward and achieve the business goals
  • High level of attention to detail

  • Well organised and able to work to tight deadlines
  • Good interpersonal and networking skills
  • Good communication / people skills
  • Excellent presentation skills / ability to influence the business case internally as required
  • Knowledge of Canadian legal framework, SACC conditions and government contracting
  • Understanding of the federal governments Industrial and Technological Benefits framework
  • ITAR and Trade control knowledge essential
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
