Purpose of role
The role of Data Engineer is embedded in the Data Engineering Team. You will have the opportunity to work with richly grained data sets drawn from a diverse range of sources and to collaborate with a large team of Data Engineers. 

You will also work alongside Dashboard Developers, Testers, Analysts and Project Managers throughout the software development life cycle. Babcock is an international organisation and career development opportunities are not limited to the UK.

 

Key tasks    

•    To support the development and delivery of high-quality corporate data assets using the Palantir Foundry
•    Gather requirements for new data sets and implement solutions that address them
•    Design and implement data pipelines in collaboration with our data users and other internal teams
•    Work with IT and business stakeholders to identify and define the business problems and business case and be able to express the context of the change within the business strategy and BI Roadmap
•    Use your investigative nature and problem-solving skills to understand how data and technology drives business forward and innovate new ways that enable competitive advantage
•    Provide guidance across the stakeholder community and work with the Principle Data Engineers to ensure all solutions are fit for purpose and deliver business value
•    Coordinate the definition, evaluation and agreement of the business solution options in collaboration with the BI Architect and BI Technical Leads
•    You will be responsible for developing and maintaining Data Source, Transform, and Ontology Projects in Palantir Foundry.
•    You should be confident at highlighting issues, providing estimates and delivering progress reports to project managers and your team leader and attend daily stand-ups.
•    You will work with the team and follow the established quality process and coding standards.
•    You will be joining an established team responsible for delivering BI Solutions to meet customer requirements and departmental standards.
•    You will also be responsible for providing technical help and product knowledge where needed.


What do I need to do the role? 

 

Essential
•    Experience with Palantir Foundry or commitment to learn the platform
•    Extensive experience with the Python programming language
•    Proficient in SQL
•    Data warehouse or data pipeline experience
•    Experience with analysing reporting performance and recommending tuning improvements.
•    Significant experience of gathering and documenting high quality business requirements, interacting with business stakeholders through workshops, meetings, and written communication
•    Proven experience of working closely with business stakeholders and IT teams to deliver robust and efficient solutions
•    Understanding of the concepts pertaining to dimensional modelling, Data Warehousing techniques, methodologies, and data modelling tools
•    Able to work independently with limited technical direction
•    Able to work on a range of tasks including high levels of complexity

 

Desirable
•    Experience with Palantir Foundry quiver and workshop projects
•    Knowledge of Big Data framework and related technologies (Spark, Hive, Hadoop, NoSQL...)
•    Experience with APIs

•    Experience of working in technical teams with large enterprise class systems
•    Must be able to follow agreed processes and make suggestions for improvements
•    Good creative thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
•    Willingness to undertake reasonable travel for work

 

Desirable
•    Proven ability to build trust with stakeholders
•    Current Security clearance
