About the role

Here at Babcock International we’re looking to recruit a Principal Engineer Supportability.


The Whole Boat Support Integrator (WBSI) is responsible for the development and transition of a Support Solution to support the Dreadnought Class submarine in-service.


As a Principal Engineer Supportability on the Fradley team, you will play a major part in ensuring the supportability requirements for the Dreadnought programme are met.


Through collection, integration and analysis of large amounts of data relating to system reliability maintainability, and cost you will help the team understand the overall supportability of the Dreadnought class Submarines.
You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the suite of reports to time, scope and quality throughout the programme to convey risks and proposed mitigation to issues relating to: Availability, Reliability & Maintainability (AR&M), Supportability and Safety. You will ensure effective management of the customer, including liaison and relationship development to aid the development of business, resolution of technical and delivery issues such that the customer is fully briefed and informed of progress. You will manage technical and programme risk associated with Whole Boat analysis through effective delegation; contributing to process improvement for risk management, developing and retaining capability, managing resource demands and skills to match the needs of future workloads. You will also review technical documents and supportability requirements to ensure coherency between the measure of performance, verification and validation activities and overall programme objectives.


What do I need to do the role?

You’ll need Chartered status, registered with a relevant engineering or management institute, be educated to Degree Level, or with equivalent qualifications and experience and be APM qualified (IPMA Level D) / Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner, or demonstrable evidence verifying competency to an equivalent level with ability to obtain required qualification.


Would also like you to have experience in all or some of the following:
• A successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, both verbally and in written form, and able to articulate complex arguments for a wide range of stakeholders to understand.
• An awareness of systems engineering practices and systems thinking is an essential part of this role, including Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) experience.
• A background working on complex systems, ideally in a maritime environment,
• Experience running numerical model simulations and assessing the output of any analysis is desirable but not essential.
