About the role
Babcock provides the delivery of Design, Integrated Logistic Support and Programme Support to the UK `new build’ and `in-service’ submarine fleet across all classes of vessels. From system feasibility analyses of engineering problems and solutions, to fully incorporated design changes, Babcock support the entire submarine product lifecycle.

 

The Safety Services Group provide Safety and Environment Management advice and support to the Ministry of Defence Submarine Delivery Agency, a key component to ensuring that the nation’s nuclear submarine fleet is operational and the nuclear deterrent is continuous.

 

The Senior Safety Engineer supports the delivery of the Babcock International Group, Engineering Services technical outputs in keeping with the requirements of the prevailing support contract framework. You will be responsible for the production, review and technical assurance of safety and environmental documentation of high technical complexity, including the following key areas; Hazard Identification and Analysis (HIA); Environmental Impact Screening Studies (EISS); design change / product safety management; hazard management; material state assurance; Defence Maritime Regulation; combat system safety; safety case management; commission and life extension.

 

You will also be responsible for project management of safety and environmental, tasking sub contracted to Babcock industry partners as well as the technical development of Safety Engineers within the Group.

 

What do I need to do the role?

  • Safety and Environmental Management principles across the maritime domain including; legislative requirements, Hazard Identification and Analysis (HIA) techniques, safety assurance throughout product lifecycle, safety case management and engineering assurance.
  • Project management experience and be familiar with the delivery of technical outputs within a contractual framework
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • IEng accredited with the Engineering Council and actively progressing application towards chartership.
  • Safety and Environmental Management Training (SEMT)


What else do I need to know?

  • The post will be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. You must be a sole UK national and hold ‘Security Check’ (SC) or ‘Developed Vetting’ (DV) security clearance.
  • This position is based in Keynsham, which is situated between Bristol (5 miles) and Bath (7 miles).
